Greetings Fellow SQPers,
The state QSO party season ended in October and the last deadline for log submissions has passed. The numbers on the SQP leaderboard on the StateQSOParty.com website will be considered the final numbers for the 2020 State QSO Party Challenge.
Highlights for the year 2020:
• We easily topped a million (1,360,540) QSOs that were reported to 3830Scores. Adding in the untallied QSOs that were not reported to 3830, I am sure there were over two million QSOs in the 46 QSO parties combined.
• Three operators, KI6RRN, N0HJZ and K5CM, contributed 10,000 or more QSOs each. • 2,111 operators submitted reports to 3830. Nearly half of them (1,040) qualified for the SQP Challenge with a minimum of two contacts in at least two QSO parties.
• We believe that the 1,071 who submitted reports to 3830 but did not qualify for the Challenge were in-state participants who only participated in their own QSO party.
• 94.7% (985) of the qualified operators attained a level of at least Bronze.
• 97 members attained the Diamond level (>50,000 points).
o 184 made Platinum (>10,000 points).
o 114 reached Gold (>5,000 points).
o 326 are Silver (1,000+).
o 264 are Bronze (100+).
• 18 operators accumulated 100,000 points or more in 2020. Last year only two operators made it past 100,000.
• Eleven operators have scored a year-to-date aggregate of over a million contest points in the QPs that they have entered.
• 77 Canadian contesters have qualified. 13 of them attained the Platinum level. Eleven DX qualified. OM2VL participated in all 46 QSO parties and is ranked 12th overall for both Final Score and Number of QSO’s. His efforts gained him a Diamond level. DL3DXX was in 45 QSO parties and he also reached the Diamond level.
• Of the operators who entered in 10 or more QPs, K5KG had the highest average number of QSOs per contest – 424.
o KI6RRN is second with 325.
o Eight others had 200 or more.
o The average of all entrants is 115 QSOs per contest.
• In-state contesters generally make more QSOs than out-of-state. Recently a small number of contesters have been able to take advantage of remote operations to make more QSOs by operating in-state in states in addition to their home state. KI6RRN was able to claim the SQP Challenge highest cumulative score and highest total QSO count rankings by having a “perfect attendance” and by operating remotely as an in-state operator in five states other than his own state of California.
• N0HJZ, the second highest ranking operator in both total QSOs and cumulative score employed a different approach. Many out-of-state operators “followed” Rich as he drove from county to county in six different states rewarding them with much needed multipliers. He also had “perfect attendance.”
• Although “working all State QSO parties” wasn’t an initial component of the SQP Challenge, it soon became the goal of many contesters. An amazing total of 32 operators had “perfect attendance,” working all 46 SQPs.
